Dr. Ofer Sagiv is a general cardiologist who specializes in cardiac imaging. He fellowship trained in cardiovascular disease at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, completed a residency in internal medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, and holds a medical degree from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York, in collaboration with Ben Gurian University of the Negev in Israel. Sagiv is board certified in internal medicine, echocardiography, cardiovascular computed tomography, and nuclear cardiology. He is fluent in Hebrew and proficient in Spanish. He lives in West Hartford.
Dr. Ryan Zengou is a neurosurgeon graduate of the UConn School of Medicine. The wide range of problems he treats includes those pertaining to the brain, spine and peripheral nervous system. He has a particular interest in conditions related to cerebrovascular disease, as well as skull base and tumor surgery including both primary brain tumors and metastatic disease. Zengou’s return to the UConn Health Center follows extensive training at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, a major tertiary care referral center. While at Rush he received training in the latest techniques to address complex disorders of the brain and spine, including minimally invasive spine surgery and endoscopic approaches to the skull base. He lives in Farmington.
Dr. Brian Shames, a UConn School of Medicine graduate, has returned to the Health Center as director of the Division of General Surgery. He brings a strong background in transplant surgery as well as complex hepatobiliary procedures and abdominal surgery. Shames was a transplant research fellow, then a clinical transplant fellow, at the University of Wisconsin. His residency training, in general surgery, was at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, where he also was a National Institutes of Health research fellow. He lives in Avon.
Dr. Reena Chokshi is a gastroenterologist who specializes in gastrointestinal motility disorders and women’s GI health. She did her fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at Washington University in St. Louis following an internal medicine residency at the University of Pennsylvania. Her medical degree is from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. She is a resident of West Hartford.
Dr. Aseem Vashist is an interventional cardiologist with expertise in coronary and peripheral arterial disease and the management of venous insufficiency, a condition that can cause varicose veins, leg cramps, and restless leg syndrome. He obtained his medical degree from the Armed Forces Medical College in Pune, India, and completed an internal medicine residency at the Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center-Albert Einstein College of Medicine. After completing his training in cardiovascular medicine at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx and nuclear cardiology fellowship at the Yale School of Medicine, he further specialized in interventional cardiology at the UConn School of Medicine interventional cardiology fellowship program at Hartford Hospital. He has also served as faculty at the Yale School of Medicine at the rank of assistant professor of medicine and currently serves on the board of directors of the Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology. He is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular medicine, interventional cardiology, nuclear cardiology and echocardiography.
Dr. Yazeed Maghaydah is a UConn-trained geriatrician with expertise in memory disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. He rejoins the UConn Center on Aging, where he completed a geriatric medicine fellowship, from private practice in Norwich. He completed residency training in internal medicine at St. Michael’s Medical Center in Newark following a general surgery residency in Jordan, where he also completed medical school. Maghaydah is board certified in geriatrics and internal medicine. He lives in Glastonbury.
