Armando Jimenez, a freshman majoring in business, and Rosaly Rosario, also a freshman, received the 2009 Promesa Youth Award from the Connecticut Latino and Puerto Rican Affairs Commission. They were honored at a gala awards banquet at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Hartford on Oct. 24. Each received a $1,500 scholarship.
Jimenez is a graduate of Hartford Public High School Law and Government Academy, where he was a tri-varsity athlete and honors student. He participated in the student council and senior activities board. He also is a long-time member of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Hartford.
Rosario is an honors graduate of The Sound School Regional Vocational Aquaculture Center in New Haven. During her high school years she worked in the Agriculture Directed Lab afterschool program. For three years, she volunteered with the Department of Environmental Protection during the summer as a student researcher. She also volunteered at the Roberto Clemente Leadership Academy tutoring underprivileged high-risk special education Hispanic students. Other activities include participating in a program at the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences in May 2009.
