The UConn Alumni Association is in the midst of its annual membership drive to improve and expand its network of more than 225,000 alums worldwide.

The “You Make It UConn” effort will continue through June 2012 and is highlighted by a new video featuring former Husky basketball star Kara Wolters ’97 (CLAS), former WNBA star and Olympian and a longtime member of the Association.

“All of the programs offered through the Alumni Association are made possible because of the support from alumni membership,” says Wolters. “By making it official, alumni can help make more possible. I wanted to give back to the school that gave me so much. That’s why I joined.”

Husky alumni who join the Association receive a number of exclusive benefits to Association members, including a members-only newsletter, career seminars, job and resume postings, networking opportunities, invitations to special events, and discounts on travel, entertainment, insurance, and UConn merchandise.

“One of the intangible benefits of joining the Alumni Association is strengthening your connection to UConn,” says Lisa Lewis, executive director of the Association. “We hear from so many members that participating in local alumni chapter activities near their homes, their individual school or college events, or our annual Homecoming and Alumni Weekend activities helps alumni to reconnect with friends and faculty, and motivates them to get involved with mentoring students, supporting the University’s programs, and deepening their Husky pride.”

One of the newest members-only benefits for Alumni Association members this year is a series of Alumni Career Webinars, online career seminars that help alumni to advance their careers with tips on breaking employment barriers, using social media for job searches, and improving their resume.

The Alumni Association also provides support to current UConn students by awarding more than $100,000 annually in scholarships.

Formed in 1888, the mission of the UConn Alumni Association is to strengthen lifelong bonds between all members of the UConn family by inspiring pride and providing quality programs and services, which enhance the diverse University community. Membership is open to all alumni and friends of the University. For more information go to www.uconnalumni.com.
