The Merry Music Makers of ‘A Completely Different Note’ Appear in Concert
A Completely Different Note embraces the art of a cappella singing in the group's December concert.

A Completely Different Note, the oldest all male a cappella group at UConn, presented a concert in the Student Union Theater on Dec. 8. Established in 1999, the members of this popular singing group embrace a wide variety of musical styles, and their repertoire includes songs that range from classical to popular and from folk to rock.
A cappella is Italian for ‘in the manner of the chapel,’ and the music is characterized by solo or group singing without instrumental accompaniment. Although still used in religious music, a cappella singing has been growing in popularity both on college campuses and in other secular settings for years.
In addition to using their voices to sing words, some a cappella singers also reproduce melodies with their vocal cords. From the Mills Brothers of the 1930s and 40s to Bobby McFerrin in the present day, a cappella performers delight their audiences, and UConn’s a capella groups are no exception.
