A time capsule was buried in the courtyard of the UConn Health Center on Monday as part of its year-long 50th anniversary of its founding celebration.
“It’s with great pride that we bury items that represent the UConn Health Center at this point in time,” said chairperson of the event Sandy Kressner. The 150 pound stainless steel, waterproof vault was donated by the Norwalk-Wilbert Vault Company in Bridgeport. The vault will be unearthed in the year 2036 when the Health Center celebrates its 75th anniversary.
The time capsule contains a variety of items which represent the clinical, research and educational realms of the Health Center. Items include a flash drive with photographs from events and celebrations ranging from the years 2001 through 2011; photographs of research labs and a current listing of publications and grants; various Health Center apparel, lanyards and patches; a 2011 commencement program and tassel; various newsletters, directories, handbooks and brochures; a spring 2011 edition of UConn Magazine; as well as service recognition pins and many other items. The time capsule also contains information about the Health Center’s newest initiative, Bioscience Connecticut.
During the event, Dr. Bruce Liang, interim dean of the UConn School of Medicine and director of the Pat and Jim Calhoun Cardiology Center, read a proclamation from Gov. Dannel P. Malloy which conveyed anniversary greetings and acknowledged the service the Health Center has provided to the residents of Connecticut for the past 50 years.
