Achievement

Connecticut’s Sandy Shores: An Introduction to the Geology, Ecology, Plants and Animals, the 2023 Connecticut Sea Grant publication, received a 2024 APEX (Awards for Publication Excellence) Award in the category of Print Media (Books). Communications coordinator Judy Benson, extension educator emerita Juliana Barrett, and research scientist of marine sciences Ralph Lewis were honored.

Professor of accounting George Plesko traveled to Washington, D.C. last month to present the results of their highly regarded corporate tax research to the White House Council of Economic Advisors. Plesko, who has served on IRS advisory panels for more than 30 years, has regularly participated in policy discussions with Congressional and Treasury experts.

Raymond Bouchard, 74, of Enfield, Conn, retired assistant police chief at UConn Health, on July 17.

Jerome Neuwirth, 93, formerly of Storrs, Conn., a retired professor of mathematics, on July 9.

Pertti J. Pelto, 97, an emeritus professor of anthropology, on July 17.
