Student organizations at the UConn School of Law raised more than $11,000 in the successful 2022 Ignite Law crowdfunding campaign.

During the campaign, which lasted four weeks and concluded in mid-November, 175 donors contributed $11,267 to support the programs of 21 student organizations. It was the largest number of gifts and highest total for donations since the 2019 Ignite campaign.

Representatives of the participating organizations celebrated at an awards lunch on November 28 with Dean Eboni S. Nelson and John Buckley, a member of the Class of 1984. For the second year in a row, Buckley funded special bonus prizes given to organizations based on the success of their crowdfunding.

“The purpose and connections derived from this experience are lifelong,” Buckley told the students.  “It’s not just about what you learn and getting that first job, it’s about connecting with people and finding your purpose, and then ultimately giving back in some way that is meaningful to you and does a service to the whole law school community.”

The Latinx Law Students Association was the top fundraiser, followed closely by the Student Bar Association.

Nelson also contributed special prizes for the student organizations that had at least five donations on the law school’s Founders Day, October 25. Those awards went to the Connecticut Moot Court Board, the Public Interest Law Group, the Women Law Students Association, the Student Bar Association, the Energy and Environmental Law Society, the Mock Trial Society, and the Non-Traditional Evening and Working Students Association.

“I’m impressed to see our students work so hard to raise funds for the programs and causes that matter most to them,” Nelson said. “Their commitment to advancing justice, supporting local communities and enhancing life on our campus is deeply inspiring and greatly appreciated.”
