To Our Students:
In light of the current evolving COVID-19 situation in Connecticut and nationally UConn is making changes to the spring semester in order to help protect the health of our communities that will affect all students:
- At least the first two weeks of classes for the spring 2022 semester will be online only. Faculty are aware of this and your professors will be in touch with you directly regarding your courses.
- Residential move-in for the Storrs and Stamford campuses will be moved back by two weeks, meaning move-in will occur over the weekend of January 29, not January 15. During this two- week period, the university is asking all students to take careful precautious to help avoid exposure to COVID-19, meaning consistent masking (especially in public settings) and avoiding gatherings, particularly those that are indoors. Students who have on-campus housing and/or a meal plan who do not live in their residence hall or utilize dining services for this two-week period will receive a credit equal to two weeks-worth of the overall cost of the housing and/or dining fee for the spring ‘22 semester.
- The university will announce in the near future that vaccine booster shots will be required for eligible students. Information on obtaining a booster and reporting to SHaW can be found here. Discussions are also occurring regarding requiring the same for eligible faculty and staff. Everyone who is 16 years old and older is eligible to get a booster shot. This includes those who received two doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccine at least six months ago and those who received a Johnson & Johnson (J&J/Janssen) COVID-19 vaccine at least two months ago.
The measures described above are critical: in order to reopen, resume in-person classes, and stay open during the spring semester, the university needs to welcome back a healthy population.
The university knows that some students have no choice but to return to our campuses over the weekend of the 15th or earlier based on your individual circumstances. On Monday, January 3, residential students needing to live on campus will be contacted by residential life with instructions on how to request approval for housing from January 15-29.
International students and all students with demonstrated housing insecurity will be approved. Students wishing to live on campus must reply by Thursday, January 6, at noon. Campus employment does not guarantee approval to live in campus housing.
Unvaccinated, exempted students are not eligible to return to university housing prior to January 29.
For students approved to live on campus, UConn will open in red with added restrictions including on line course instruction, limited dining, and highly limited activities including closing in-person usage of the Rec Center until January 29. This will closely resemble the residential quarantine the university followed in fall of 2020.
All students, regardless of vaccination status, will be required to follow these restrictions. Unless necessary for academic expectations, students will not be permitted to leave campus and no guests will be allowed in the residence halls.
