Local Engineering Firm Supports Next Generation Through Scholarship

The Connecticut-based engineering firm of Milone & MacBroom, Inc. has created a civil engineering scholarship at UConn to help the next generation of engineers succeed. The firm has connections to the University going back more than three decades. Jeanine Armstrong Gouin '87, vice president and managing director, has served on the School of Civil & Environmental Engineering advisory board for almost two decades.

scholarship2The Connecticut-based engineering firm of Milone & MacBroom, Inc. has created a civil engineering scholarship at UConn to help the next generation of engineers succeed.

The firm has connections to the University going back more than three decades. Jeanine Armstrong Gouin ’87, vice president and managing director has served on the School of Civil & Environmental Engineering advisory board for almost two decades. She estimates that about a quarter of the company’s 150 employees, including one of its founders, are UConn alumni. While the firm has offices up and down the east coast, its headquarters in Cheshire provides a natural fit with UConn.

“We love the quality of engineer that UConn develops,” she says. “What I appreciate about UConn is that the school has not lost sight of the fundamentals of engineering. Some schools teach students very specific skillsets, like application of a particular software. While that’s useful, UConn has never lost sight of the need to teach its students how to think independently and problem solve.”
