A team of three UConn School of Pharmacy students took fourth place in this year’s American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) Clinical Research Challenge. Team members Ming Zhang, Ethan Wang, and Mai Vestergaard, all recent B.S. graduates in pursuit of their Pharm.D. degrees, presented their research entitled: Effects of Clinical Pharmacy Program on Influenza Vaccination Rates in Pregnancy. Their UConn School of Pharmacy faculty mentor was William Baker, Pharm.D.
The three round competition began in February 2020 with eighty-six teams from across the country. Round one included an online journal club/trivia competition. Forty of the original eighty-six teams then moved onto round two that required submission of a letter of intent for an original research idea in the area of women’s health. Twenty of these forty letters were then invited to submit full research proposals (round 3). An oversight panel then chose the top four proposals. See full competition detail here.
“The ACCP Clinical Research Review Panel was very impressed with the quality of the materials submitted and the amount of time and dedication involved by each of the student teams, said Michelle Kucera, Pharm.D., Consultant to the ACCP. “The CRC Review Panel noted that the overall grantsmanship was admirable given the submissions were made by students in their first two years of professional training.”
