Two of UConn’s most accomplished and high profile alumni have been in the news recently — Maya Moore of the Minnesota Lynx and Kemba Walker of the Charlotte Hornets.

Moore announced earlier this month that, after an almost non-stop All-Star career playing basketball, winning WNBA championships and Olympic gold medals, she will focus in 2019 on personal goals.

“There are different ways to measure success. But the main way I measure success in life is something I don’t often get to emphasize explicitly through pro ball,” she wrote on The Player’s Tribune website on Feb. 5. “My focus in 2019 will not be on professional basketball, but will instead be on the people in my family, as well as on investing my time in some ministry dreams that have been stirring in my heart for many years.”

Walker earned status as a starter for the first time in the recent NBA All-Star game in Charlotte and served as the “unofficial host” of the weekend of activities.

Establishing himself as a player of unique abilities in leading the Huskies to the 2011 NCAA championship, Walker is a three-time NBA All-Star who is averaging 25.2 points per game, and his Hornets appear to be headed for the NBA playoffs for the third time since he joined the team.
