There was a new event on the schedule for Homecoming this year: UConn360’s first live podcast was recorded in Werth Tower on Friday afternoon, with an audience of alumni, staff, and students.

Like Homecoming itself, the podcast blended reminiscences about the past with enjoyment of the present. The cast of UConn360 began by reading selected campus newspaper headlines from Octobers going back to the 1890s, including Homecoming in bygone years; interviewed biology professor Margaret Rubega, who holds the title of State Ornithologist – a post dating back to 1913, and baseball head coach Jim Penders, whose baseball coaching lineage can be traced back several generations; and wrapped up with a display of archival photos, including one of a Homecoming that drew all six members of the first graduating class back to campus.
