Dean James R. Halpert announced the appointment of Peter J. Tyczkowski ’78 as director for experiential education for the UConn School of Pharmacy. Tyczkowski will provide day-to-day management of the Office of Experiential Education. Experiential education comprises 30 percent of the professional pharmacy curriculum and includes Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences. Tyczkowski will work with the team in planning, implementation, and assessment of all experiential education activities and be engaged in inter-professional education development and activities throughout the experiential and didactic curriculum.
Tyczkowski brings a wealth of professional experience and expertise to his new role. He received his Bachelor of Science in pharmacy from the University of Connecticut, graduating Magna Cum Laude. Subsequently, he obtained a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in finance, also from the University of Connecticut. For the past ten years he has been the coordinator of educational outreach at the school, which provides an outstanding foundation for his new role. Prior to joining UConn, Tyczkowski worked for two decades, first as vice-president and director of pharmacy operations at Pelton’s, Inc. in Middletown, Connecticut and as a consultant pharmacist. He is certified in immunization administration, CPR, diabetes management, and osteoporosis.
In addition to his service to the school, Tyczkowski has been heavily engaged in professional and public service in the area of regulatory affairs, most notably serving as the school’s liaison with the Connecticut Commission of Pharmacy, a representative to the United States Pharmocopeia, and longstanding work with the American Pharmacists Association. He is currently the treasurer of the Connecticut Pharmacists Association, having also served as its president. He has received numerous awards including the Bowl of Hygeia, the UConn Public Service Award, and the NCPA Foundation Outstanding Faculty Liaison.
