This November at the national meeting of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) in Atlanta, UConn Health and the work of its AAMC Chapter of the Group on Women in Medicine and Science (GWIMS) were applauded as a shining example.

GWIMS at UConn Health was honored for their successful inaugural Women’s Health Clinical, Health Disparities, Basic Science Research Poster Symposium held of March 8 on International Women’s Day and in Women’s History Month.

Dr. Marja Hurley, UConn Board of Trustees Distinguished Professor and Professor of Medicine and Orthopaedic Surgery at UConn Schools of Medicine and Dental Medicine serves as UConn Health’s Chair of its GWIMS Steering Committee.

At the inaugural event hosted by GWIMS over 40 female physicians and scientists and their male colleagues gathered in the Academic Rotunda at UConn Health to present their latest female health-focused research study findings.

UConn Health GWIMS Steering Committee Chair Hurley and Member Dr. Rebecca Andrews, professor of medicine at UConn School of Medicine, presented a poster about their team’s event at the GWIMS, COD, CFAS, GFA Joint Poster Reception & Leadership Awards Ceremony on Nov. 9. Additionally, their accomplishments were highlighted at the GWIMS Business Meeting and Town Hall Knowledge Sharing Session on November 10.
