Achievement
David Embrick, associate professor in the Department of Sociology and the Africana Studies Institute, was recently awarded the 2024 Joseph B. Gittler Award from the Society for the Study of Social Problems (SSSP). The award recognizes SSSP members for their significant scholarly achievements on the ethical resolution of social problems. He also received the 2024 Founder’s Award for Scholarship & Service from the American Sociological Association’s Section on Racial and Ethnic Minorities. The Founder’s Award for Scholarship & Service recognizes career excellence in scholarship and service.
Carolyn Lin, a professor in the Department of Communications, has been inducted as a Fellow of the International Communication Association (ICA). Fellows are selected for their distinguished scholarly contributions to the broad field of communication. Lin’s research and teaching interests focus on strategic, risk, and science communication in the contexts of marketing, public health, climate change, public opinion, intercultural competence, and human-computer interaction.
