Achievement
Diana Burgess, Board of Trustees Distinguished Professor of Pharmaceutics and Pfizer Distinguished Endowed Chair in Pharmaceutical Technology, was selected as the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Technology (NIPTE) 2024 David J. W. Grant Distinguished Scholar in Basic Pharmaceutics. The award is the highest recognition by NIPTE and given annually for outstanding scientific achievements in the relevant areas of pharmaceutical science and technology.
Douglas Casa, Board of Trustees Distinguished Professor in the Department of Kinesiology, has been inducted into the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Hall of Fame. Casa is also the chief executive officer of the Korey Stringer Institute, the nation’s preeminent research and advocacy organization for heat-related studies, located within the College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources.
Karolina Heyduk, assistant professor in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, was awarded a $578,000 grant from the National Science Foundation. The project will focus on understanding how bromeliads, a family of plants that includes pineapples, adapt to nitrogen limitation. The goal is to understand why species grow in the places that they do depending on how they get and distribute limited resources.

Nick Wolfson, 92, of Annapolis, Maryland, who was the Geroge and Helen England Professor of Law Emeritus at UConn Law, on Aug. 14.
