For the first time, four graduate programs within UConn’s Neag School of Education have been ranked among the best in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, which released its 2024 Best Education Schools rankings earlier today.
In addition, the Neag School appears for the ninth consecutive year as one of the top 25 public graduate schools of education in the United States, tied at No. 24. Among all graduate schools of education across the nation, both public and private, the Neag School stands tied at No. 34.
“I’m immensely proud of the hard work and dedication of our faculty, staff, and students that have led to these impressive rankings,” Dean Jason G. Irizarry says. “Four of our programs being named to specialty lists is a testament to the high standards we set across all our Neag School departments, and I’m thrilled we are once again recognized as one of the top public graduate schools of education in the nation.”
Each of the Neag School’s three departments are represented in the 2024 specialty education program rankings:
- No. 13 (tie) in Special Education Programs
- No. 23 in Educational Psychology Programs
- No. 25 (tie) in Educational Administration Programs
- No. 28 (tie) in Curriculum and Instruction Programs
The Neag School’s special education program has been ranked previously, rising four spots from No. 17 last year, but the other three programs are new to the rankings this year.
In fall 2023 and early 2024, U.S. News collected statistical and reputation data from education schools nationwide that grant doctoral degrees in education; of 456 schools surveyed, 265 responded and 255 met the requirements for inclusion in the rankings.
Nine different indicators, including total research expenditures, student selectivity, and assessment scores by peers, are used in the rankings calculations. Specialty rankings are based solely on nominations by deans of education schools and deans of graduate studies at education schools from the list of schools surveyed, according to U.S. News.
