To UConn Nation:
Bringing home our men’s basketball program’s sixth national championship is a dream come true for UConn, our extraordinary student-athletes, Coach Hurley and his staff, our alumni, and fans everywhere. The historic back-to-back wins – the first for a men’s basketball program in 17 years – set all-time records, capping a season that saw the Huskies win 37 games. It’s something that Coach Hurley has worked toward for years, building an organization around exceptional talent and inspiring them to trust and support each other. Their passion for the game, team spirit, and drive to win are – as we’ve seen firsthand – second to none!
The team will be honored with a victory parade and rally in Hartford this Saturday.
We are also incredibly proud of our women’s basketball team. Our student-athletes, Coach Auriemma, and his staff made it all the way to the program’s 23rd Final Four appearance, and then battled Iowa in front of a then-record women’s basketball television audience of 14.2 million viewers.
Words can’t adequately express what these teams and their achievements mean to our university and the State of Connecticut.
We also want to thank our students, alumni, fans, donors, and elected officials for showing the unwavering devotion and boundless passion that is synonymous with UConn Nation.
UConn victories resonate far beyond the confines of the basketball court, and the enthusiasm of our community and our state are ongoing reminders of the joy that the Huskies bring.
UConn and our athletic programs are nationally and globally known, great contributors to our state’s economy, and a symbol of excellence.
Please join me once again in congratulating our amazing student-athletes and coaches on their incredible seasons!
Leading with joy and love for all,
Radenka
