Awards
Marina Creed, a nurse practitioner at UConn Health, and Barbara Pelletier, a physician assistant at UConn Health, have both been named Healthcare Heroes by the Hartford Business Journal. Creed won the award for community service and advocacy/policy, while Pelletier won for her heroic work in urgent care settings.
Nancy Schmieder Redeker, professor in the School of Nursing and School of Medicine, has won the 2023 Katharine A. Lembright Award. The award is sponsored by the American Heart Association Council on Cardiovascular and Stroke Nursing and it acknowledges and celebrates the cardiovascular research of established nurse scientists.
Dimitris Xygalatas, associate professor of anthropology and psychological sciences, won the 2023 Society for Anthropological Sciences Carol R. Ember Book Prize for his book Ritual: How Seemingly Senseless Acts Make Life Worth Living. The award was presented at the group’s recent meeting in Toronto.
