Honors

The Spring-Summer 2022 issue of Wrack Lines received an Award of Excellence in the 2023 APEX/Communications Concepts Awards for Publication Excellence. Wrack Lines is published by the Connecticut Sea Grant College Program at UConn Avery Point and is edited by Judy Benson.

David Embrick, associate professor of sociology and Africana studies, will receive the Cox-Johnson-Frazier Award from the American Sociological Society Association on August 19. The Cox-Johnson-Frazier Award is given to an individual for their work in the intellectual traditions of Oliver Cox, Charles S. Johnson, and E. Franklin Frazier, three African American scholars.

Dr. Rajesh Lalla, professor of oral medicine and associate dean for research at the School of Dental Medicine, received the Distinguished Service Award from the International Society of Oral Oncology (ISOO) at the opening ceremony of the MASCC/ISOO international conference in Nara, Japan in June.

Dorian Lord, 58, of Trumbull, Conn., a retired equal employment opportunity and search compliance specialist in the Office of Institutional Equity, on July 12.

Lew Perkins (pictured on front page), 78, of Lawrence, Kansas, who served as Director of Athletics from 1990 to 2003, on July 18.

Jack Ryff, 90, of Chambersburg, Penn., a former mathematics professor and the department head from 1972-79, on July 21.

Tony Simonelli, 99, of Southport, N.C., a professor emeritus in the School of Pharmacy, on July 14.
