The 2018 Public Interest Law Group auction drew a lively crowd to the Reading Room in William F. Starr Hall on the UConn Law campus in Hartford.

A brewery tour, a football signed by the New York Jets and dinner and a Star Wars movie with Assistant Dean Karen DeMeola are among the more than 100 items that will be up for bid on Nov. 1, 2019, at the 27th Annual PILG Auction, a fundraiser to support the work of UConn Law students for public interest agencies and organizations.

The event, which will feature both live and silent auctions, is the main fundraiser of the year for the law school’s student-run Public Interest Law Group. All proceeds from the auction will fund stipends for students working in the public interest.  In the past, PILG fellowships have allowed students to work at organizations such as Greater Hartford Legal Aid and the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities.

“PILG fellowships not only make it financially possible for UConn law students to work at public interest organizations that they are passionate about, but also symbolize the fact that an entire legal community made up of students, faculty, staff, local practitioners, and more believe in the work they are accomplishing as advocates of diverse and marginalized communities,” said Amy Saji, president of the Public Interest Law Group.

Donations are still welcome, and can be made by emailing Sydnee Sousa (sydnee.sousa@uconn.edu) for an in-kind donation, or with monetary support via the Ignite campaign.

The event will run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Reading Room in William F. Starr Hall on the UConn Law campus. Admission is free and open to the public. Please register in advance here.

“We are expecting over 300 people to attend,” Saji said. “We have some amazing items to bid on from our generous donors, and it should be an exciting night to celebrate the importance of advocacy in public interest fields.”
