The University of Connecticut School of Engineering is proud to announce that the Connecticut Department of Transportation and the Connecticut Transportation Safety Research Center, led by Civil Engineering Professor Eric Jackson, have been presented with the Best Practices Award by the Association of Transportation Safety Information Professionals (ATSIP) at the 2019 Traffic Records Forum on August 4-7 in Austin, Texas for their CT Roadway Management System.  

ATSIP is a non-profit organization whose mission is to further the development and sharing of traffic records system procedures, tools, and to promote professionalism in the field of traffic safety. Membership is open to any individual with an interest in traffic safety. 

The Best Practices Award brings to light the importance of public and private entities who are striving to create the best traffic safety data available, and acknowledges the organizations whose projects are making an impact across the world, according to the ATSIP website. 

The Connecticut Roadway Safety Management System is a digital system that reinforces the Highway Safety Manual Methods through various modules. The module uses a variety of tools including crash map, tabular data, and collision diagrams that indicate potential factors that contribute to crash patterns.
