Bryan K. Pollard ’85 (CLAS) has been elected by the University of Connecticut alumni to serve as a member of the school’s Board of Trustees.
UConn alumni are represented by two members on the Board of Trustees. Pollard begins a four-year term on the board, replacing Rick Carbray ’75 (PHR), who recently completed two four-year terms, the maximum allowed for an alumni trustee. Jeanine Gouin ’87 (ENG) is currently midway through a four-year term.
The resident of Middletown, Connecticut, has given a great deal of service to UConn and several local communities.
Pollard earned his undergraduate degree in political science with magna cum laude distinction from the Honors Program, in addition to being a member of Phi Beta Kappa. As an undergraduate, he served as a student ambassador and a student representative for the Office of Minority Student Affairs. After graduation, he went on to Yale Law School where he earned a law degree in 1988.
Pollard served as president of the UConn Alumni Association from 1999-2000 and as a member of its Board of Directors from 1994-2000. He was a member of the organization’s committees on Diversity and Opportunity, Insurance, and Building Names.
“My passion for UConn drives my desire to serve on the Board of Trustees and I am very grateful for all the support I received,” said Pollard. “UConn provided me with a solid foundation and preparation for professional and personal life. I want to assure that UConn remains equipped to provide similar foundations for current and future students. My hope is that I can be a voice for the alumni and be part of the process of ensuring the vitality of our University.”
Pollard is an associate general counsel for operations for the United Technologies Corporation (UTC) in Farmington, Connecticut, and has been with the company since 1995. In his current position, he provides legal counsel to executives and management pertaining to global supply chain and operations.
He previously held legal positions at other UTC entities, including Otis Elevator Company in West Palm Beach, Florida, and Farmington; Building & Industrial Systems in Farmington and Jupiter, Florida; and Hamilton Standard in Windsor Locks, Connecticut.
Pollard was a litigation associate at the law firm of Day, Berry & Howard in Hartford, Connecticut, from 1991-95 and an associate at Crowell & Morning in Washington, D.C., from 1989-91. In 1998-99, Pollard served as a law clerk to the Honorable Thomas J. Meskill ’56 JD for the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
Outside of work, Pollard currently serves on the Board of Directors for St. Bernard School, in Uncasville, Connecticut. He was a member of the Middletown Board of Ethics from 1995-98 and served as chair in 1998. Pollard was chairperson of the United Way campaign for Otis Elevator from 2012-14.
He has also served on the boards of the University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford, Connecticut; the Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County, Florida; St. Vincent de Paul, Middletown; Connecticut Health and Educational Facilities Authority; YMCA of Northern Middlesex County; and The Connection in Middletown, a human service agency.
