Addressing graduates of the School of Engineering as “architects of the future,” Commencement speaker Kimberly Bryant, founder and executive director of Black Girls Code, encouraged them to make the transition from being consumers of technology to being creators, during the ceremony at Gampel Pavilion on May 5. Bryant is committed to promoting diversity in the STEM fields. The nonprofit she founded, Black Girls Code, has taught thousands of girls of color, from the ages of 6 to 17, how to write code, and aims to train 1 million by 2040.
