Dr. Margaret Lloyd examines how parental substance use disorders effect families in the child welfare system. She is currently working with the state of Oklahoma to evaluate two family drug treatment courts, which aim to address the underlying issues that contribute to poor outcomes for families with parental addiction involved in the child welfare system. In her study of the Oklahoma City Family Drug Treatment Court, the largest family treatment court in the state, Dr. Lloyd is looking at three interventions designed to enhance parent-child bonding in families with children ages 0 to 5. She will analyze data to understand the effects of each individual intervention, as well as how families involved in the drug court compare to families with parental substance use disorders in the general child welfare system.

Additionally, Dr. Lloyd is a member of a women and opioids workgroup in Connecticut, which is developing recommendations for the state legislature on the ways hospitals respond when babies are born with prenatal substance exposure.
