Dr. Eric Mortensen has been appointed chief of the Division of General Internal Medicine at UConn Health.

As a successful general internist he will provide medical care for patients in both inpatient and outpatient clinical settings at UConn Health while also continuing to conduct his advanced research on the pharmaco- and clinical epidemiology of respiratory infections such as pneumonia and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

“We are excited to have Dr. Mortensen join us,” shared Dr. Cheryl Oncken, professor and chair of the Department of Medicine at UConn Health.

Mortensen joins UConn Health from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas where he served as professor of internal medicine and clinical sciences, as well as, director of its Fellowship in General Internal Medicine. He also previously served as chief of general internal medicine at the VA North Texas Health Care System. He completed his residency and fellowship training in internal medicine at the University of Pittsburgh.

“I’m very excited to be joining UConn Health and look forward to supporting the strong primary care and hospitalist program in the Division,” said Mortensen. “I am also looking forward to help build a strong outcomes research program here at UConn.”

Mortensen has extensive experience conducting large database analyses, prospective research studies, and interventional clinical trials. His research has been funded by the NIH, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
