Dr. Peter C. Albertsen of UConn Health will be the recipient of the 2016 Eugene Fuller Triennial Prostate Award by The American Urological Association (AUA).
Albertsen, professor in the Department of Surgery and chief of the Division of Urology at UConn Health, is being honored for his outstanding contributions to the understanding of prostate cancer, most notably in epidemiology and statistical analysis. He specializes in urology with a focus on treating patients with prostate and urologic cancers.
The Eugene Fuller Triennial Prostate Award is only presented once every three years to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the study of the prostate gland and its associated diseases. This award is endowed by a trust fund established by the family of the late Dr. Eugene Fuller.
“Congratulations to Dr. Albertsen on his well-deserved honor by the AUA and for his international leadership in urological surgery and research for prostate and other urological cancers,” said Dr. David W. McFadden, chair of the Department of Surgery and Surgeon-in-Chief at UConn Health.
This May, at the AUA’s annual meeting in San Diego, CA, Albertsen will receive his award along with other physicians, researchers and educators for their contributions to medicine, the specialty of urology, and the AUA.
“I am honored to be selected by the AUA as a recipient of the prestigious Eugene Fuller Triennial Prostate Award and look forward to continuing to advance the field of urology and improving care provided to prostate cancer patients,” said Albertsen.
Albertsen graduated from Princeton University, received his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons, his surgical training at Harvard’s Deaconess Hospital, and completed his residency training in urology at the Johns Hopkins University Brady Urological Institute.
Founded in 1902, the AUA is an association for the specialty of urology with more than 21,000 members throughout the world. Its mission is to foster the highest standards of urologic care through education, research and the formulation of health policy.
