Bruce DonnellyBruce R. Donnelly, Ph.D. (B.S. Civil Engineering, ’71) is the winner of the SAE International Arnold W. Siegel International Transportation Safety Award recognizing individuals whose accomplishments include outstanding international research, innovation and contributions to crash injury protection, crash injury biomechanics and crash injury design. With over 40 years of collision and injury analysis and consulting for research and forensic purposes, Donnelly is Principal Engineer at Biomechanics Research Associates. He received his M.S. in Architectural Engineering from Penn State and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at SUNY Buffalo.

 

 

jpaniatiJeffrey F. Paniati, P.E. (B.S. Civil Engineering, ’82) joined the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) as executive director and CEO after more than 32 years with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). Paniati’s career with FHWA comprised a series of progressively more responsible roles and under his leadership they were recognized as a Top 5 Best Place to Work by the Partnership for Public Service. An ITE member for more than 25 years and a Fellow of ITE, he earned a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Maryland.

 

SaripalleRishi Kanth Saripalle (Ph.D. Computer Science & Engineering, ’12) accepted an appointment as an assistant professor in Computer Science at Illinois State University. His research and teaching will focus in the area of software engineering, model driven development, metamodeling and biomedical and health informatics. Prior to joining the university, Saripalle was a software engineer at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

 

 

JWangJinlin Wang (Ph.D. Electrical Engineering, ‘98), chief operating officer and chief technology officer at Answers Corporation, has been appointed to CoolaData’s newly formed advisory board. Prior to Answers Corporation, Wang held various technology leadership roles at Microsoft, Yahoo, Oracle and PeopleSoft. He is also an avid and prolific investor and serves as an advisor to the prominent early stage Silicon Valley venture capital firm TEEC Angel Fund.

 

 

Heidi Ellis, CSE PhD 1994, has been nominated for a Women In Technology Award. She is a professor of computer science and information technology at Western New England University. Voting is here: http://www.redhat.com/en/about/women-in-open-source

In Memorium

Charles J. Innes (B.S. Mechanical Engineering, ’52) passed away on November 5, 2015 at Middlewoods of Farmington, Connecticut. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and worked at Ingersoll-Rand and the Torrington Company for 28 years, retiring in 1982.

valleyRobert A. Valley, Sr. (B.S. Electrical Engineering, ’50) passed away at Connecticut Hospice in Branford, Connecticut on September 15, 2015 after bravely confronting symptoms of stroke and a diagnosis of terminal cancer. Valley began a family legacy of UConn School of Engineering alumni. Following in his footsteps are son-in-law Steve Mierz (B.S. Mechanical Engineering/Materials Engineering, ’81) and grandson Matthew Mierz (B.S. Mechanical Engineering, ’15 expected).
