James F. Byrnes, Jr

James F. Byrnes, Jr. (M.S. Civil Engineering, ’73) joined the Middletown engineering-services firm AI Engineers, Inc. as senior director for business development and corporate strategy.  Byrnes has spent more than 40 years in engineering/transportation, rising from a Connecticut Department of Transportation engineer to deputy commissioner. From 2002 to his retirement in April 2004, he served as the agency’s head.

Melissa Carserino (B.S. Chemical Engineering, ‘11) joined BioSafe Systems LLC as a research engineer/project manager.  A family-owned manufacturer of biodegradable disease-control products, at BioSafe Systems, Carserino will handle new product development, including vendor relations.  Previously, she was a technical sales service engineer and product & market analyst at Chemtura Corporation.  Carserino earned an MBA at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Lin Lin

Lin Lin (Ph.D. Electrical Engineering, ’04) received the Teaching Award for Middlesex Community College (MxCC), as well as the System-wide Teaching Award for all 12 community colleges in the State of Connecticut.  The awards were presented to Lin, assistant professor and coordinator of the Computer Engineering Technology Program and the Engineering Science Program at MxCC, during the April 15 meeting of the Board of Regents for Higher Education for Connecticut State Colleges and Universities.

Vincent S. Pitruzzello (B.S. Mechanical Engineering, ’85) joined Okay Industries Inc. as director of operations.  Prior to Okay, he was vice president and general manager at Capewell Components LLC.  Upon graduation from UConn, Pituzzello spent more than 23 years at Stanley Black & Decker.  In 1988, he earned an M.S. in Business (Operations Research) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Ted M. Taccardi (B.S. Chemical Engineering, ’81) has been appointed vice president, Global Customer Care at Carestream Health, Inc.  In this role, he will lead the company’s worldwide Customer Care organization and serve as a member of firm’s senior executive leadership team.  Previously, Taccardi was chief operating officer of Carestream’s Digital Medical Solutions and chief technical officer of Digital Capture Solutions.  He completed a Wharton Executive Education program at the University of Pennsylvania.
