Rainer Hebert Wins Innovation Award

Associate Professor Rainer Hebert (MSE), director of the Additive Manufacturing Center, received the Platinum prize in Innovation from the Connecticut Quality Improvement Award.

Designed to recognize improvements to their competitive position among organizations with facilities in the state, the Innovation award began in 1995, and is the first of its kind in the state.

Platinum is the highest of the three award’s three levels.

 

Mei Wei Receives Grant

faculty weiDr. Mei Wei (MSE) received a $199,999 NSF grant for her research project PFI:AIR-TT: Prototyping bioabsorbable composites for bone-fixation applications involving low to medium loads.

The project is intended to prototype of a composite bone fixation device that would eliminate problems associated with commonly used metallic bone fixation devices now on the market, and benefit patients who suffer from bone fractures and are in need of orthopedic surgeries.
