Update 11/18/2013 — The field hockey team will make its 11th trip to the NCAA semi-finals on Nov. 22 following a 2-1 win over Boston College on Saturday and a 3-0 victory over Michigan 3-0 on Sunday in Syracuse, N.Y. The Huskies will travel to Norfolk, Va., to face the University of North Carolina in one semi-final, with the winner to advance to the championship game against the winner of the Maryland-Duke game.
UConn’s No. 4 ranked field hockey team will face No. 11 Boston College on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the first round of the 2013 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship in Syracuse, N.Y.
Hall of Fame head coach Nancy Stevens’ team earned the automatic bid to the tournament last weekend by winning the Big East Tournament Championship in dramatic fashion with a 1-0 overtime victory over No. 7 Old Dominion at the George J. Sherman Family-Sports Complex.
After playing to a scoreless tie in regulation, Marie Elena Bolles ’14 (NUR) started a fast break toward the left side of the ODU goal and flipped a pass to Chloe Hunnable ’15 (CLAS), who sent the ball into the cage just 63 seconds into the overtime, triggering a celebration.
The winner of the UConn vs. BC game will face either No. 2 Syracuse or the winner of the opening round game between Miami (Ohio) and Michigan State on Sunday at 2 p.m. with a berth to the NCAA National Semifinal on the line.
