William J. Foley (B.S. Mechanical Engineering ’72), Ph.D. is a lecturer in Industrial and Systems Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.  William teaches courses in engineering economy, production and operations management, design of work systems, operations research, computer simulation, probability and statistics, product design and innovation, invention, and engineering design. He received his Ph.D. in Operations Research & Statistics from RPI in 1983.

Lon R. Hultgren (M.S. Civil Engineering ’73), Public Works Director for the town of Mansfield, CT, will retire in December 2013 after 35 years of service. The public works director, a full-time position, has oversight and responsibility for various operations, including roads, grounds, solid waste/recycling, equipment/ fleet maintenance and engineering. He has been heavily involved in the multi-million, 10-year Storrs Center project, which was formally celebrated with a grand opening in September.  Lon plans to serve on the transportation advisory committee for Mansfield, which he currently serves on as a staff member, and work as a volunteer in the Nash-Zimmer Transportation Center, which is expected to open in November and is part of the Storrs Center development. Earlier in his career, Lon worked as the first deputy sanitarian for Coventry, CT and as a consultant for Fuss & O’Neill in Manchester.

Donna Rizzo (B.S. Civil Engineering ‘84), Ph.D. is a Fellow in the Gund Institute for Ecological Economics and a professor of Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of Vermont College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences (CEMS). She also has a dual appointment in the College of Computer Science.  In January 2013, she received a prestigious National Science Foundation Behavioral and Cognitive Sciences (BCS) award for $2.5 million for research entitled, “Modeling disease transmission using spatial mapping of vector-parasite genetics and vector feeding patterns.” Dr. Rizzo received her Ph.D. from the University of Vermont.

Brian Quillia (B.S. Civil Engineering ’91), P.E., is a Manager-Environment, Health, & Safety Programs for Pitney Bowes.  Brian has responsibility for multi-media compliance, auditing, remediation, and permitting.  He is a registered professional engineer in Connecticut.  Earlier in his career, Brian was a lead engineer at National Grid, a senior scientist at Con Edison and a corporate program/project manager at United Technologies Corporation.
