justinandgroup2PhD candidate and 2012-13 GK-12 Fellow Justin Roller received $10k from Dominion Resources for a project involving Grasso Technical High School students, to convert a gas-powered car into a battery/fuel cell vehicle. The team will remove the engine from a donated car, modify the car’s design for reduced weight (maximizing range per charge), and install an electric motor hooked to an advanced battery capable of safely reaching highway speeds.  The project will also include development of an energy module relating to the design decisions required for project completion and an environmental assessment of the fuel, car, and emissions.
