The 36th annual UConn Cancer Research Golf Tournament is Monday, August 5 at Tumble Brook Country Club in Bloomfield, Conn. Special guest Scot Haney of “Eyewitness News This Morning” and “Better Connecticut” on WFSB Channel 3 will serve as auctioneer.
This event, organized by a committee of volunteers in conjunction with the UConn Foundation, has raised more than $1.6 million for cancer research, prevention and education over its history. Proceeds will benefit the DNA sequencing program at the Carole and Ray Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center at the UConn Health Center. DNA sequencing enables faster and more in-depth reading of a person’s genetic makeup. Scientists at the Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center are investigating how cancer tissues differ from normal tissues, and ways to advance cancer treatment based on a patient’s DNA.
Registration, practice and lunch start at 11 a.m. Shotgun start is at 12:30 p.m. Dinner, including cocktails, awards ceremony, and live and silent auctions, starts at 5:30 p.m.
The Tumble Brook Country Club is at 376 Simsbury Road in Bloomfield.
