Now heading into its third consecutive year, the UConn Reads Program has opened the nomination process for its 2013-14 book selection, which will center on world literature.

Submissions are being accepted from across the University community for titles in the world fiction genre only – specifically, works of fiction written by non-U.S. authors that have gained significant worldwide readership since publication in their original language.

“A global perspective on literature is more relevant than ever at UConn, given our increased global presence,” says associate professor Anne D’Alleva, who is serving a second year as chair of the UConn Reads Selection Committee. “Considering our faculty’s internationally recognized research efforts, the growing number of international students attending UConn, and the continued expansion of our global and Study Abroad programs, we felt that a focus on world literature for our next year of UConn Reads was particularly important.”

To submit your nomination(s) or to learn more about the UConn Reads program and nomination guidelines, go to uconnreads.uconn.edu. The deadline for submissions is Aug. 1, 2013.

Launched in 2011 by President Susan Herbst, the UConn Reads program is intended to engage the University campus and the extended community in a common reading experience, generating dynamic discussion and an open exchange of ideas. Past UConn Reads book selections have included F. Scott Fitzgerald’s literary classic The Great Gatsby and nonfiction best-seller Half the Sky, by Nicholas D. Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn.
