For a third year now, some University of Connecticut Health Center students have gotten together to form an a cappella band of carolers to serenade patients this holiday season.

This year’s group was led by Arija Weddle, a fourth-year student at the UConn School of Medicine.

“Response was overwhelmingly positive,” Weddle says. “Students really love to have activities that break up the long hours of studying, and getting to sing for patients offers us a chance to participate in a creative activity as well as have a sense of giving back or spreading holiday cheer to those who must be in the hospital, and often away from their families, during the holiday season.”

The singers rehearsed their repertoire of seven songs over the weekend in Keller Auditorium. They performed Monday and Wednesday on the third, fourth, sixth and seventh floors of John Dempsey Hospital, as well as in cardiac stepdown and labor and delivery.

The carolers performing in this video include: medical students Arija Weddle, Olayinka Edwards, Vishal Bhuva, Kaitlyn Ryan, Victoria Forbes, Kristine Kenning, Meaghan Roy-O’Reilly, Myungso Chung, Amy Dora, Shirin Karimi, and Sharon Secola, and dental students Elyse Pizzo, Sean O’Brien, Joseph Whitney, Janiris Lopez, Kellie O’Keefe.

Other vocalists include medical students Alison Romegialli, Brian Wong Won, Tina Toutoungi, Samantha Chirunomula, and Caitlin Bette-Waner, and graduate student Joseph Autoro.
