On Tuesday, September 25, the School of Engineering hosted the first of two autumn 2012 all-school career fairs. Staged in the Rome Commons Ballroom, the event brought 60 prospective employers and professional program exhibitors – from small and large manufacturing businesses, biotech companies and construction firms to software companies and universities – to campus to recruit UConn engineering students for a variety of opportunities, from internships and co-ops to full-time employment.

Approximately 500 students, from across all engineering disciplines and academic years, eagerly participated in the event, intent on exploring the range of meaningful learning and career opportunities available to them.  With the aim of impressing prospective employers, the students arrived neatly dressed in professional attire and armed with current resumes.  In advance of the fair, the Engineering Undergraduate Office presented a number of career prep workshops to help students polish their resume-writing, professional and interview skills.

Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Education & Diversity, Marty Wood, noted, “This earlier than normal fall career fair enabled students and companies an opportunity to meet and start the spring entry level hiring process to be completed by December 2012.  The student attendance included sophomores, juniors as well as seniors because several companies are looking for summer internships.  It was a win-win event.”

A second all-school engineering career fair will be held on Tuesday, October 30, also in Rome Commons Ballroom. A full list of the participating employers, as well as those who will be recruiting during the October 30 fair, may be viewed here.
