In mid-November, the Schools of Engineering and Business co-hosted an alumni reception in Dallas.  More than 60 UConn engineering and business school graduates came to meet Engineering Dean Mun Y. Choi, Director of Engineering Alumni Relations Heidi Douglas, Development Director Donald Swinton and their counterparts from the School of Business. 

Highlighting the alumni reunion was a tour of the stunning new landmark Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge, led by Huitt-Zollars Executive Vice President and alumnus Robert McDermott (B.S. Civil Engineering ’77), P.E.  The tour, reserved for the first 10 alumni to register, enabled the group to explore the bridge from the suspension cables to inside the deck.  The bridge was designed by Spanish architect and artist Santiago Calatrava in conjunction with Huitt-Zollars, the engineers of record.  It will be formally unveiled in March 2012.  The nearly 2,000 foot bridge will carry six lanes of traffic over the Trinity River, connecting downtown Dallas to west Dallas.

Other alumni joining Bob McDermott, who also hosted the post-tour reception, were Steven Baldauf (B.S. Civil Engineering’74), a Principal with Herrin & Associates, Inc.; Michael Douglass (B.S. Electrical Engineering ’79), Reliability Manager with Texas Instruments; Shar Govindan (M.S, Environmental Engineering ’03), Global Technical Director with Bentley Systems Inc.; Steve Simmons (B.S. Accounting, B.S. Computer Science & Engineering ‘83; M.S. Computer Science & Engineering ’85), a Software Engineer with Fujitsu Networks, and Steve’s wife Jane and daughter Tori.
