Urban Service Track scholars helped provide health care screenings and nutrition information for senior citizens in New Haven.
UConn medical students helped provide health care screenings and nutrition information for senior citizens at a community fair in New Haven.
Irina Lisker and Cynthia Emilie Armand, both fourth-year students involved in UConn’s Urban Service Track, staffed a booth at the Dixwell/Newhallville Senior Center Wednesday, offering services such as blood pressure screenings and blood glucose tests, as well as advice on nutrition, including new sodium guidelines for older adults.
“As a teacher, it’s always a joy to watch your students in action – competent, professional, and caring,” Gould says. “They were great and our patients, the elders who came to the health fair, were well served.”
State Sen. Toni Harp (D-10th) organized the 10th District Senior Fair.
“State residents have to adjust to so many changes as they get older,” says Harp. “These fairs make available to them a laundry list of ways and means at their disposal with which they can complete this transition and minimize the disruption of those changes.”
