Editor’s Corner profiles top journals edited by our faculty members.  Today, we highlight the editorial contributions of Dr. Amvrossios C. Bagtzoglou, Head of the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, who serves as Associate Editor of the Open Environmental Engineering Journal and Stochastic Environmental Research and Risk Assessment and as a member of the Editorial Board of Environmental Forensics.
Commenting on his professional experience as an editor, Dr. Bagtzoglou said “Indeed, serving as Associate Editor gives me the opportunity to stay abreast of developments in my field and provides me with an appreciation of where emerging areas of research are in my field, which in turn generates ideas for proposals and exciting collaborations. The responsibility and workload of securing qualified reviewers for papers, assessing their reviews and coming up with recommendations to the Editor-in-Chief is significant but extremely rewarding at the same time as you act as the trustee for the journal’s quality and visibility.”

He previously served as Associate Editor of Ground Water (1994-97), Water Resources Research (1999-01 and 2001-04), Environmental Forensics (2002-03), the Journal of the American Water Resources Association (2002-07), and Inverse Problems in Science and Engineering (2007-09).

Journal: Stochastic Environmental Research and Risk Assessment, Springer

Impact Factor 2010: 1.777

Journal Content: The Stochastic Environmental Research and Risk Assessment journal pursues stochastic and probabilistic approaches to environmental sciences and engineering; studies interactions of earth and atmospheric environments with people and ecosystems; and brings together stochastic modeling research papers in various fields of environmental sciences.  The journal publishes research papers, reviews and technical notes on stochastic and probabilistic approaches to environmental sciences and engineering, including interactions of earth and atmospheric environments with people and ecosystems. Its core aim is to bring together stochastic modeling research papers in various fields of environmental sciences and to provide an interdisciplinary forum for the exchange of ideas, for communicating on issues that cut across disciplinary barriers, and for the dissemination of stochastic techniques used in different fields to the community of interested researchers. Coverage includes modeling, measurements and instrumentation in the areas of spatiotemporal analysis and mapping of natural processes; enviroinformatics; environmental risk assessment, reliability analysis and decision making; surface and subsurface hydrology and hydraulics; multiphase porous media domains and contaminant transport modeling; and more.

Journal: The Open Environmental Engineering Journal, Bentham Science

Journal Content: The Open Environmental Engineering Journal is an open access online journal, which publishes original research articles, short articles and review articles in all areas of environmental engineering. It is a peer-reviewed journal, aims to provide the most complete and reliable source of information on current developments and research in environmental engineering. The emphasis will be on publishing quality papers rapidly and freely available to researchers worldwide.

Journal: Environmental Forensics, Taylor & Francis

Impact Factor 2010: 0.681
Impact Factor 5-Year: 1.017

Journal Content: Environmental Forensics provides a forum for scientific investigations that address environmental contamination which is subject to law court, arbitration, public debate, or formal argumentation and is subject to the basic science that serves as underpinnings to those activities. Journal subject matter encompasses all aspects of contamination within the environmental media of air, water, soil and biota. The journal is an international, quarterly, peer-reviewed publication offering scientific studies that explore source, fate, transport, and human health and ecological effects of environmental contamination. Contamination is delineated in terms of chemical characterization, biological influence, responsible parties and legal consequences.
