Editor’s Corner profiles top journals edited by our faculty members. Today, we highlight the editorial contributions of Dr. Rajeev Bansal, Head of the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering, who serves as Associate Editor and Editorial Board member on four scholarly journals.
Editorial Information: Dr. Bansal writes a regular column and serves as an Associate Editor of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Magazine (1987-present) and the IEEE Microwave Magazine (2000-present). In addition, he serves on the Editorial Boards of both the International Journal of RF & Microwave Computer Aided Engineering and the IETE Technical Review.
Dr. Bansal’s lively column, which appears in both Microwave Magazine and Antennas and Propagation Magazine, covers diverse topical subjects with humor, insight and factual support. Two recent columns, titled “Say au Revoir to Cell Phones?” and “Did Maxwell Pull a Fast One?” reflect subtly on society’s – and even researchers’ – capacity for ironic contradiction when it comes to our scientific gullibility. The ideas emerge, he explained, from news articles he reads online and in print and saves in an “idea folder” for later contemplation. “I try to introduce readers to something fun or interesting in the technological or societal arena,” he notes.
Journal: IEEE Microwave Magazine
5-year Impact Factor: 1.644
Journal Content: Founded in 2000, the quarterly IEEE Microwave Magazine is distributed to all members of the Microwave Theory & Techniques Society (MTT-S). It is also distributed at the IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium, the largest trade show and symposium in the industry; IEEE Radio and Wireless Week, the European Microwave Conference, and other worldwide events throughout the year. The magazine disseminates timely information from the various MTT Committees; contains regular columns giving insight into a range of technical and non-technical interests; and includes technical features that provide overviews and tutorials on the state-of-the-art in a given area.
Journal: IEEE Antennas and Propagation Magazine
5-year Impact Factor: 1.165
Journal Content: The IEEE Antennas and Propagation Magazine mirrors the interests of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (APS) and includes: antennas, including analysis, design, development, measurement, and testing; radiation, propagation, and the interaction of electromagnetic waves with discrete and continuous media; and applications and systems pertinent to antennas, propagation, and sensing, such as applied optics, millimeter- and sub-millimeter-wave techniques, antenna signal processing and control, radio astronomy, and propagation and radiation aspects of terrestrial and space-based communication, including wireless, mobile, satellite, and telecommunications.
Dr. Bansal is also a member of the Editorial Boards of the International Journal of RF & Microwave Computer Aided Engineering (5-year Impact Factor: 0.423), covering research and development results in the areas of computer-aided design and engineering of RF, microwave, and millimeter-wave components, circuits, subsystems, and antennas; and IETE Technical Review (5-year Impact factor: 0.174), a bimonthly journal featuring state-of-the-art review papers and in-depth tutorial papers on current and futuristic technologies in the area of electronics and telecommunications engineering.
