When something takes off online, it really takes off. A five-minute video of walk-on UConn quarterback Johnny McEntee completing trick shots with astonishing accuracy quickly generated more than 1.5 million views on YouTube.com and was the site’s most-watched video on Feb. 10. (Editor’s note: By Feb. 14, the number jumped to more than 4 million.)
The video has appeared on scores of news and sports sites, including ESPN.com, CBS Sports, Yahoo!, USA Today, MSNBC, and even in the foreign press, such as The Guardian, a top newspaper in the UK.
“It was made all in good fun, and the only thing I wish to gain from it is more support for UConn football,” McEntee, a sophomore from Fullerton, California told the Hartford Courant.
The video, which was produced and edited by Isaac Stalzer and Kyle Campbell, also features cameos from kicker Dave Teggart and safety Emmanuel Omokaro, as well as student assistant Mark Dupuis.
A similar video starring UConn women’s basketball player Caroline Doty was posted on YouTube two weeks ago.
