Naples is a professor of sociology in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She co-authored this book with Lionel Cantu, a late assistant professor of sociology at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and Salvador Vidal-Ortiz, an assistant professor of sociology at American University.

Shannon is a graduate student and Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Sociology. He co-edited this book with Abraham Deleon, an assistant professor at the University of Rochester, Luis Fernandez, a professor of criminology and criminal justice at Northern Arizona University, and Anthony Nocella, a doctoral student at Syracuse University and a professor at Le Moyne College.
