Jean Givens, professor of art and art history in the School of Fine Arts, received the 2009 John Nicholas Brown Prize from the Medieval Academy of America for her book, Observation and Image-Making in Gothic Art (Cambridge University Press, 2005). In the book, Givens addresses fundamental questions in medieval art and science about how people perceive the natural world and how they describe and relate that experience to specific audiences.
