Dr. Dipanjan Basu who joins the Civil & Environmental Engineering Department as an assistant professor. Dr. Basu earned his Ph.D. (’06) and M.S. from Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, and a Master of Technology from India Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur. His research expertise and interests lie in the modeling of boundary value problems pertaining to geomechanics and geotechnical engineering. For his thesis, he developed a continuum-based method for nonlinear analysis of laterally loaded piles and was involved in field testing of a laterally loaded closed-ended pipe pile.
Dr. Basu was most recently a post-doctoral research associate at Purdue, where his focus lay in developing a design of prefabricated vertical drains. At UConn, he will seek to develop analytical and numerical tools for solving engineering problems pertaining to foundations, soil-structure interaction, soil dynamics, earthquakes, ground improvement and geo-environmental engineering. The focus will be on a general treatment of geo-systems based on the principles of mechanics and mathematics.
