The School of Engineering wishes to thank alumni and friends for generously supporting the School during the last year, through the endowment of scholarships and contributions to the university’s current Dean’s Fund fundraising drive. “Donations and gifts are absolutely critical,” said Interim Dean Erling Smith. “They support many important programs within our school, from undergraduate scholarships to K-12 outreach and faculty professional development.”
According to Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Education Marty Wood, many of the school’s top undergraduate students chose UConn engineering over top-tier Ivy League colleges because UConn engineering offered them impressive scholarship packages that – paired with academic excellence – made UConn an unmatched educational value. During the 2006-07 academic year, the School of Engineering awarded $550,000 in scholarships to continuing students and another $800,000 to students admitted to the school for the fall ’07 term. Scholarships range from $1,000 to $5,000, with the average $2,500.
Many alumni, friends and corporate donors augmented existing scholarships within engineering, and several established new scholarships during the last year. In addition, donations made during the current Dean’s Fund fundraising drive bring the School close to its goal of $150,000.
If you have not yet made your gift, please consider that without your support, the School of Engineering cannot continue to attract and train highly skilled engineers to meet the state’s and nation’s needs. Your gift, combined with the gifts of others, can make a significant impact not only on the School but also on the talented students and faculty who choose UConn. On behalf of our students, alumni, friends, faculty, and staff, the School of Engineering thanks you for your support and generosity.
